Balloons caught on St Catherine, Montreal

Ready, Set… OK Go.

February 5, 2012 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Today, music-video masters OK Go came out with a new video! This one clip quickly turned into a OK Go marathon. The group’s videos, like their music, are super fun and awesomely quirky. At first their style was very DIY, filming and releasing their music clips themselves on YouTube- even though they were signed. OK Go gained particular attention after one of their videos, in which they performed a hilarious dance routine on eight treadmills, went viral in 2006. In […]

Climbing straight up to Grindelwald glacier

Takes Me Away

January 9, 2012 by snapshotsandneedledrops

This is the climb up to the Upper Grindelwald Glacier or Oberer Grindelwaldgletscher, one of the lowest glaciers of the Alps at 1,400m. First we went up half of the 900 stairs so we could zip-line back down, before we headed all the way up to reach the glacier. The view from the top was absolutely magnificent.  Grindelwald in situated in a valley right in the heart of Switzerland. It was the first place I went when I moved there and […]

Phone!

December 14, 2011 by snapshotsandneedledrops

I’ve been living alone for the better part of six months now. It’s been going pretty well except yesterday, for the first time, I crossed a line- I started talking to myself. Or rather, what I should say was that I was talking to my phone. Is talking to inanimate objects better than talking to yourself? Doubtful. Regardless, these were not murmured internal ramblings, but full sentences at a conversational volume. If a girl talks in her apartment, and there’s no one […]

Condensation on window over Glasgow

“There’s no lions!”

December 5, 2011 by snapshotsandneedledrops

One morning I was having breakfast with my good friend Phil, and we were discussing the mental benefits of going for a run. He talked about how his brain seems to figure stuff out while he’s jogging only to pop up later like “hey! While you were running- we were working, and we figured some stuff out for ya!” My favourite line to come out of this conversation was when he told me he always thinks his brain is confused […]

Stained glass window of La Sagrada Familia

It’s Always Darkest Before the Dawn

December 1, 2011 by snapshotsandneedledrops

“People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.” Slightly cheesy, I know, but when I was 15 I thought this Elizabeth Kübler-Ross quote was incredibly astute. Random fact: Elizabeth Kübler-Ross is the same psychiatrist who proposed the five stages of grief model. The photo is from inside La Sagrada Família, Antoni Gaudí’s cathedral in Barcelona. Construction […]

Montreal's tour la nuit, cyclists in motion

It’s My Road

November 26, 2011 by snapshotsandneedledrops

I’ve been working like a madwoman lately. This photo was taken during Montreal’s Tour la Nuit this past summer. It’s an annual festival where about 15,000 bike 20km through the city at night. For the event, a lot of major roads are blocked which delayed my dinner companions significantly. However, while I waited, I ended up writing one of my first posts: ‘Go. Stop.’ “My Body” by Young the Giant

Close up on Barr Brothers' guitar and harp

Releasing the Brothers

November 13, 2011 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Eeeks! I had got complaints, but I hadn’t realized it had been nearly two weeks since I had posted! Sorry, it’s been fast-times in the world of VApps, and at the moment, I’m writing to you from my best friend’s place in Paris. Alright, so about a month ago, I was fortunate enough to attend the album release concert for The Barr Brothers. The Brothers have been a big hit on this blog. For previous posts click here (coincidentally a photo […]

The Underdog

October 28, 2011 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Meet Rocky.  Rocky lives in Vancouver. Rocky is gorgeous. Rocky is fierce. Rocky was made for the camera. The photo here was taken by a Mr. Davidson at a high tea hosted by the ever-dashing Mr. Ting. It was well posh. The song, The Underdog has been used both wisely and unwisely by music supervisors in quite a number of projects. For instance, it’s used awesomely in Horrible Bosses, How I Met Your Mother, but awfully in 17 Again. There is an […]

Red ball on reflective water, cloud reflections

Making Mirrors

October 26, 2011 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Feel like having a xylophone song break your heart? Here is Belgian-Australian Gotye and Kiwi artist Kimbra, who will, with layers of synthesizers, cowbells, and xylophones, rhythmically give off a vibe that is both quirky and bleak. Gotye spent eight weeks at number one on the Australian charts this summer with this single off his 2011 album Making Mirrors. He is the first Australian act to do so since Savage Garden and their hit “Truly, Madly, Deeply” (a song that I still […]
