Paris empty street, night

Paris, 2am

April 29, 2014 by snapshotsandneedledrops

2am, Rue du Bac, 7e arrondissement de Paris I chose this photo because today’s song reminds me of some sort of chase scene through Europe– like it belongs on Jason Bourne’s running mix. This is undoubtably because it reminds me of “Running Away” by G. Love (embedded below) a great piece used in the movie Cellular. I’ve been running flat out for the last two weeks, so these tracks are fitting. I can finally see the light at the end […]

Gold fleur-de-lis gates at the jardin tuileries, Place de la concorde, Paris, sun flare

White, Gold, Wild

June 25, 2013 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Looking out through the gates of Jardins des Tuileries towards Place de la Concorde, Paris The Montreal Jazz Fest starts this Friday, which makes me unbelievably jealous. That city is just the greatest place on earth in the summer. Jazz Fest is only the first in a long string of festivals of all my favourite things: music, art, music, comedy, music. Resulting in former-Montrealers to think of the City in wistful tones “Oh Montreal…” We use the same air of […]

Clock at Musee D'Orsay looking out over Paris, Sacre Coeur

The Clock that Mocks

January 28, 2013 by snapshotsandneedledrops

“Time goes, you say? Ah, no! alas, time stays, we go.” – Henry Austin Dobson Looking out through the clock at the Musée D’Orsay, best museum in the world, at Paris’ 1st Arrondissement and on towards Sacré-Cœur. Time is making a fool of my plans. I cannot believe it’s Monday/post-day already! It’s been Australia Day celebrations-this and sightseeing-that… Anyway I was a bit under-prepared for this week’s entry so you’re getting some standby favourites. The photo was taken from inside […]

Hot Shots of 2012

December 18, 2012 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Since “Obsessed with 2011” went over so well last year, I decided to include the photos in this year’s roundup of favourites. 2012 had me bouncing all over, hence there is some location variation. I’ve probably gone through background of these shots in their original posts (which can be accessed by clicking on the photographs or their titles), so I won’t bore you and just let you get straight to the pics! Top 10 ‘Snapshots’ of 2012 10. On Returning: Alright… it’s a […]

Rivers and Roads

October 22, 2012 by snapshotsandneedledrops

I love this song. I love love love this song. It’s been on heavy rotation on my itunes for the past couple weeks. The Head and the Heart give us a lovely, simple yet striking, soulful song, the real treat of which is at the it’s conclusion. The finale stars the band’s female vocalist Charity Rose Theilen who is backed by male ‘ahh’-ing and scant but powerful drum beats. Just listen to it. It’s stunning. This photo was taken on […]

Padlocks of love on Paris Bridges

Locked: A Crash Course on Coldplay

July 11, 2012 by snapshotsandneedledrops

The love locks of Paris. It seems like everyone has an opinion on Coldplay. Today, I asked a good friend what hers was. Mixed reviews it seems. My opinion? Let me say this about Coldplay, they are the only artist that I have gone out and bought every one of their albums. This is saying something as I currently have some 1,633 different artists on my itunes. The “too mainstream” argument, which is often used against Coldplay, is one I can’t […]

Parisian Catacomb Skulls

Beast

February 24, 2012 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Last November I finally made it down into the Paris catacombs! They’re one of the only ‘must-see’ sights that had been missing from my list of Parisan adventures. My good friend Kin and I ventured down the 130 steps of their spiral staircase to arrive, dizzy, under the cobblestones and cafés of La Ville-Lumière. We walked through the tunnel system, which was initially created for mining limestone. We walked along the passageways mentioned in Les Misérables, by chambers where 19th century Monachists had […]

Jet trails from a plane over Paris

Potential: Part One

February 1, 2012 by snapshotsandneedledrops

“There are 500,000 people in the air right now.” Do you know what I love the most about airports? HSBC ads. Plastered all over gangways across the globe, HSBC has executed two very successful, thought-provoking airport campaigns over the last few years. There’s a lot of interesting material here, so I’m not going to use it all up in one post, but selfishly spin out their material over a few entries. The current campaign is all about the world’s potential. […]

Couple along the scene, blurry

In Slow Motion

November 28, 2011 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Happy Monday! I do have a non-blurry version of these two who are standing along the Seine, but I think this one better suits the music. I just found this beautiful song and I couldn’t resist sharing it immediately. I heard it in a great ad that I’ll put up as well, it’s definitely worth watching. “Last Night I Heard Everything in Slow Motion” by Oliver Tank
