The Victoria and Albert Museum

Lost and Found at the V&A

May 31, 2011 by snapshotsandneedledrops

I took this photo at the Victoria and Albert Museum a couple months ago. I absolutely love that all the museums in London are free. It’s such a fantastic system. Though… one could make the argument that a lot of the items in their collection were acquired in a colonial manner and so access to them must be universal. If you’re interested in this type of discussion- ownership of items taken from foreign lands, culture exchange, etc.-  last summer Michael […]

Trees in Madison Square Park, New York

Miles from Nowhere in the Centre of the World

May 30, 2011 by snapshotsandneedledrops

I took this last summer in Madison Square Park while visiting a friend in New York City. Funny story: spent the weekend, chatted with her roommate… a month later learned, just shortly after my subletting friend did, that said roommate was the child star who played Matilda. As a child of the 90s, I can tell you that this was mind-blowing. I recently watched the film, The Brothers Bloom, it’s quirky and sort of great. I also really loved the […]

A Gothic Easter

May 29, 2011 by snapshotsandneedledrops

This photo is a little smaller than usual. A computer mishap a couple years ago left me with smaller versions of my photographs from a year abroad and, try as I might, they could not be  returned to their original quality. This particular image is from the main square in Prague- all dressed up for Easter weekend. Although incredible touristy, the Old Town Square is a great place to loiter. In April the air still has a slight chill so, […]

The Beautiful Théâtre Corona

May 26, 2011 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Le Théâtre Corona is a beautiful concert hall in Montréal. It was built in 1912 for screening silent movies with a pit orchestra to provide accompanying music. Today, if you go down to the stage you can see the outline of where the pit used to extend out towards the audience. Apparently the theatre was a huge hit in the first half of the century, but in the 1960s it fell into the hands of the city. Under the banner […]

Merch at the Rock Show

May 26, 2011 by snapshotsandneedledrops

I took this photo of a merchandise table a couple months ago at the concert of one of my favourite bands. The track I’ve selected is not from this unnamed group but is off of The Black Key’s 2010 album “Brothers.” The entire disk is solid from start to finish. I love the old school style of rock these guys have. Most of the tracks have these persistent beats that are both simple and creative- the result is addictive sound […]

Musee d'Orsay- Visitors admire the Impressionists

Musée d’Orsay, you will always leave me with words

May 20, 2011 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Alright, so first post… well that’s a lie. This post originally said something else about testing all of this out. After four days of sorting through coding languages and uploading plugins I finally found a way to embed an audio file so that it would actually play on the blog. I know my more tech-savvy friends are definitely laughing at me by now but I am going to maintain that it was the third-party site error and not my own- […]

Good music + cool photos = interest?

May 19, 2011 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Okay, I’ve been reading about blogs for the past few hours and now I have a headache so I’ll make this quick.  Plain and simple: I love music and I love blogs with photos. I’m going to be posting my photos and selecting music to go alongside them. Welcome to Snapshots and Needle Drops. Sweet deal? Awesome. Thanks for dropping by.
