That Expectedly, Unexpected Sound

Dulling the pain created by the release of Osheaga’s 2013 line-up and the acceptance that I won’t be attending this year is the anticipation of going to the Australian music festival called ‘Groovin the Moo” in two weeks!

Groovin’ the Moo has stacked the deck with awesome bands from Australia. And Australia, if you haven’t noticed, has recently been flooding the market with killer new acts.

Today’s feature is a band that sound like they just came down from the fresh air of the Alps to play some underground avant-garde tavern in Zürich but…. they’re from Melbourne.

I’ve been listening to Alpine all day, racking my brain trying to come up with artists they remind me of. I don’t have a solid answer for you. They’ve got the vibe of The xx, the vocal timbre of Ellie Goulding and the entrancing mix of RJD2.

Alpine sounded so familiar to me because they have that sort of sound I expect to hear from new artists. It’s hecka different but just falls short of crossing that line into being too unapproachable or aloof.

The first time I heard Alpine was during a warm up at my dance class (thanks, Amy!) This was the first song I heard and I still think it’s my favourite. The whole album rides this vibe.

Can’t wait to see them at GTM!
