Sunset through St Laurant, Montreal, street fair

The Main

February 19, 2012 by snapshotsandneedledrops

The Main is the nickname for boulevard Saint Laurent in Montréal. This street is the heartline from which everything stems from in the city. You are either west or east of Saint Laurent, and historically it was also the unofficial demarkation between English or French. This 18th century road has been referred to as “The Main” for hundreds of years, as it was the principle path up through the city from the old port. This fact is according to Shwartz’s, […]

My Little Monster

February 14, 2012 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Happy Valentine’s Day! February 14th is special for another reason however, it’s the birthday of the little monster above, Wattie. It was nearly eleven years ago now that we found a ten-month old her on Wattie Road. She’s the best pup in the world. I adored this song from first listen. The last time I remember being immediately excited about a new song or band was the first time I heard Mumford and Sons. Which suits, as this band, Of […]

Paris wooden door carving of Medusa

Something Evil This Way Comes

February 9, 2012 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Doesn’t this Medusa, found on a Parisienne door, look like she could totally front a punk-rock band? This song was a part of my soundtrack to life when I was 18. I used to listen to it on my Swiss train rides home at night. Yeah, I was that punk in the corner listening to music loudly– but at least I had headphones! Kids today…. have you seen them? Just playing music openly to the maximum volume their little device […]

Ready, Set… OK Go.

February 5, 2012 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Today, music-video masters OK Go came out with a new video! This one clip quickly turned into a OK Go marathon. The group’s videos, like their music, are super fun and awesomely quirky. At first their style was very DIY, filming and releasing their music clips themselves on YouTube- even though they were signed. OK Go gained particular attention after one of their videos, in which they performed a hilarious dance routine on eight treadmills, went viral in 2006. In […]

Potential: Part One

February 1, 2012 by snapshotsandneedledrops

“There are 500,000 people in the air right now.” Do you know what I love the most about airports? HSBC ads. Plastered all over gangways across the globe, HSBC has executed two very successful, thought-provoking airport campaigns over the last few years. There’s a lot of interesting material here, so I’m not going to use it all up in one post, but selfishly spin out their material over a few entries. The current campaign is all about the world’s potential. […]

Into the Wild

January 20, 2012 by snapshotsandneedledrops

I was recently commiserating with my good friend Taylor about applications; on her end: law school, on mine: employment. “Eff law school imma go live in the woods!” she tells me. This naturally prompted me to compare her to Emile Hirsch in “Into the Wild.” As recent graduates, Taylor and I can sympathize with his character in the film. We are certainly feeling the post-convocation-must-find-role-in-life stress. The job market is a fearsome place, which is why this song is appropriate. The photo […]

Montréal, t’es tellement froide!

January 15, 2012 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Montreal has been a mixed bag of tricks this season. So far, for the most part, it’s been a slightly warmer winter, but there have been pockets of biting cold- like the past couple days. At the moment it’s -17C and feels like -27C with the wind chill. When I eventually did wrap myself up enough to go outside, I ran into sights like the photo above. You know it’s cold when… In honour of the weather, we’re going to […]

Beautiful Whistler

January 12, 2012 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Whistler, of course, is a world-renown haven for winter sports. This past August however, I discovered that Summer Whistler is equally as gorgeous and fun. The mountain bike trails around Whistler are fantastic. Andy and I spent an amazing day biking around around Lost Lake, we even ran into a bear cub! This picture was taken on a hiking day a little ways out from the main village, near the Olympic Athletes’ Village. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking. Shout out to Beautiful […]
