Beggar in the Morning, King at Night

June 6, 2011 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Yesterday I went a little more public with this blog than I had before. The response was overwhelming. The stats on this page skyrocketed. Thank you all so much for your kind words of feedback, you guys are all kinds of awesome, particularly NA, MH and BB… Aces. Today I wanted to share a song by the Montreal band The Barr Brothers. I like Beggar in the Morning because of its simplicity. Consequently, I’ve chosen a simple photo. I don’t want to […]

Hometown Visits

June 4, 2011 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Man, I miss that waterfront… The summer after my first year of university these two fine women came to visit me in my hometown. The Parisienne attracted a lot of attention at dinner in my small town, by the end of the meal, the entire wait staff had come over to say “bon-jer.” I have two ideas for these photos, it all depends on how you want to perceive them. Happy? You Are the Best Thing by Ray LaMontagne Nostalgic […]

Spanish Guitar by the Med

June 4, 2011 by snapshotsandneedledrops

It’s a good life they live in Barcelona. I’ve been wanting to share this song by Australian band The Middle East for a little while now. It came out in April and has been a favourite ever since. Months by The Middle East

Go. Stop.

June 3, 2011 by snapshotsandneedledrops

All dressed up with somewhere to go. I’m sitting here writing this blog entry in a new dress, hair done and make up on, while my dinner companions are stuck in traffic, presumably staring at the clock and counting down the now 9 minutes we have to make our reservation. I was restless for twenty minutes waiting until I decided to stop and be productive. I felt awful in that “running to stand still” feeling, but it made me think […]

Just Off the Boqueria

June 1, 2011 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Barcelona is probably the most beautiful and alive city I have ever visited. I’m not even going to go into it, it’ll just make me want to give up my life here, go back and enjoy a life selling mojitos from a backpack (like the Barcelona equivalent of being a Montreal squeegee kid). I really wanted to find a song from the band I’m from Barcelona to fit this picture, but the mood wasn’t quite right. Instead I’m offering the […]

The Victoria and Albert Museum

Lost and Found at the V&A

May 31, 2011 by snapshotsandneedledrops

I took this photo at the Victoria and Albert Museum a couple months ago. I absolutely love that all the museums in London are free. It’s such a fantastic system. Though… one could make the argument that a lot of the items in their collection were acquired in a colonial manner and so access to them must be universal. If you’re interested in this type of discussion- ownership of items taken from foreign lands, culture exchange, etc.-  last summer Michael […]

A Gothic Easter

May 29, 2011 by snapshotsandneedledrops

This photo is a little smaller than usual. A computer mishap a couple years ago left me with smaller versions of my photographs from a year abroad and, try as I might, they could not be  returned to their original quality. This particular image is from the main square in Prague- all dressed up for Easter weekend. Although incredible touristy, the Old Town Square is a great place to loiter. In April the air still has a slight chill so, […]

Théatre Corona entryway foyer

The Beautiful Théâtre Corona

May 26, 2011 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Le Théâtre Corona is a beautiful concert hall in Montréal. It was built in 1912 for screening silent movies with a pit orchestra to provide accompanying music. Today, if you go down to the stage you can see the outline of where the pit used to extend out towards the audience. Apparently the theatre was a huge hit in the first half of the century, but in the 1960s it fell into the hands of the city. Under the banner […]

Musee d'Orsay- Visitors admire the Impressionists

Musée d’Orsay, you will always leave me with words

May 20, 2011 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Alright, so first post… well that’s a lie. This post originally said something else about testing all of this out. After four days of sorting through coding languages and uploading plugins I finally found a way to embed an audio file so that it would actually play on the blog. I know my more tech-savvy friends are definitely laughing at me by now but I am going to maintain that it was the third-party site error and not my own- […]
