My Favourite Faded Fantasy

November 10, 2014 by snapshotsandneedledrops

He’s back guys! He’s back! He’s back! Irish, “self-lacerating troubador” Damien Rice has, after an eight-year absence, released his newest album My Favourite Faded Fantasy today in North America. I’m still on my first run-though, but this album is so classic Damien it’s hard to believe he’s been radio silent for this long. In expected form, the majority of the songs are slow, quiet and introspective– but with 30 seconds to spare he usually builds up to a screeching, voice-cracking […]

Sam Smith, so hot right now

May 26, 2014 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Secret beach at Stokes Bay, Kangaroo Island, South Australia Ah! I’ve been meaning to write about Sam Smith for the past couple of months, but I’ve been humming and hawing about his high level of notoriety– yes… I am a music blogging snob, and?… But then, I had the same internal debate last August with sharing Lorde– and it turns out she was still pretty under the radar. Once again, like I mentioned in the RAC post from last month, […]

Paris empty street, night

Paris, 2am

April 29, 2014 by snapshotsandneedledrops

2am, Rue du Bac, 7e arrondissement de Paris I chose this photo because today’s song reminds me of some sort of chase scene through Europe– like it belongs on Jason Bourne’s running mix. This is undoubtably because it reminds me of “Running Away” by G. Love (embedded below) a great piece used in the movie Cellular. I’ve been running flat out for the last two weeks, so these tracks are fitting. I can finally see the light at the end […]

Vamps from Ipa’hema’

March 19, 2013 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Tulum (Mexico) beach at sunrise D’ya get it? Vamps from Ipahema. Judge me all you want, but I am shamefully proud of that title. Now that the incredible Osheaga lineup has been announced- even though there is next-to-nil chance I’ll be attending this year- bands will subsequently fall into one of two camps: those that are playing at Osheaga and those that are not. Today we feature Vampire Weekend who are not only playing in Parc-Jean Drapeau this summer, but […]

Brilliant red roses, close up

Stars of The North

September 4, 2012 by snapshotsandneedledrops

New Stars album out today!!! Stars’ schtick is to throw roses out at their audience during concerts. They’re very much about sharing the music and the adulation. “We are Stars and so are you” is often repeated during their shows. On Facebook today they addressed fans: “This record is yours.” For concert pics and a previous post on this fav band of mine, click these words! Veteran Canadian indie rockers Stars released their sixth full-length studio album today named, The North. As you might […]
