The Great Wide Somewhere

October 27, 2014 by ebembo

Two weeks ago I was invited on an after-hours tour of Canada’s Library of Parliament in Ottawa, Ontario. Built between 1859 and 1876, the Library is the only original remaining part of the Centre Block of Parliament – the rest burned down in a fire in 1916. The Library was saved thanks to a fast-thinking clerk and a pair of steel doors. I only visited the Library of Parliament once before, on a Girl Guide field trip to Ottawa […]

Top of the Drops 2012

December 30, 2012 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Music and I got off to a rocky start in 2012. Most of the new releases from early 2012 left me underwhelmed. Everyone seemed to be wrapped up in a big electro-techno wave that I was not whole-heartedly on board for. While I see these genres as great platforms for creativity and modernity, the majority of it does little to captivate me. This disheartened attitude took a turn for the better in the summer when I started discovering amazing new […]

Now or Never

December 11, 2012 by snapshotsandneedledrops

This cryptic post will make more sense in a few weeks. In the meantime, be sure to check back soon! I’ve got a lot planned for the final Doodledrops of 2012! A tune for cozy nights by the fire. P.S. This is a Pappleby recommended artist for those keeping track. Two Needle Drops in one month Pappleby! Nice work. “Let Her Go” by Passenger

Gracias a la Vida

November 5, 2012 by snapshotsandneedledrops

I have just returned from the most spectacular trip to Mexico for my cousin’s wedding. Everything was sensational. I still have the Mexican sun on my skin and hair and its sand in all my clothes and shoes. Mexico and I do have a give-and-take relationship however, and a part of me has been left there as well- flying around in what I’m sure is close to a thousand mosquitos. This is merely one of 1305 photos I took, of […]

Rivers and Roads

October 22, 2012 by snapshotsandneedledrops

I love this song. I love love love this song. It’s been on heavy rotation on my itunes for the past couple weeks. The Head and the Heart give us a lovely, simple yet striking, soulful song, the real treat of which is at the it’s conclusion. The finale stars the band’s female vocalist Charity Rose Theilen who is backed by male ‘ahh’-ing and scant but powerful drum beats. Just listen to it. It’s stunning. This photo was taken on […]

The Mumford Effect

September 24, 2012 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Three days ago Mumford and Sons released their much-anticipated second album, Babel. Okay, here’s the thing: I haven’t actually listened to it yet apart from the single “I Will Wait” and the leaked tunes from a few months ago. So… I kinda dropped the ball on that one. From what I can remember though, the songs followed the Mumford standard: start slow- then, with rustic fervour, get faster and faster and faster. Really though, you’ve got nothing to worry, it’ll just more of […]
