Carry Me Home… to my Australian Christmas

December 23, 2013 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Now excuse me for getting sentimental with you all, but Christmas is a time for family. Whether with your own homegrown kin, or some hand-selected, family-like creatures of your own choosing, it’s always wise to have fellows around to be merry and to save you from eating all the cake. As regular followers know, the past three months have lead my passive wanderlusting-self away from my norm to work on a farm in South Australia. A scenic break and a […]

On the Road

October 21, 2013 by snapshotsandneedledrops

A secret beach. Tunnel access only. “There was nowhere to go but everywhere, so just keep on rolling under the stars.” – Jack Kerouac, On the Road Well, I’ve done it again. I’ve turned my life upside down and am now living on a farm in rural South Australia. Just over a month ago I hopped a flight from Canberra to Adelaide with the intention of going orange picking. Intentions are all well and good, but the best laid schemes […]

2004 Nostalgie

May 21, 2013 by snapshotsandneedledrops

I’m thinking it’s a sign, that the freckles in our eyes are mirror images and when we kiss they’re perfectly aligned. Inspired by Zach Braff’s latest Kickstarter campaign, I got cozy and watched Garden State this weekend. The soundtrack transported me back to my early high school days, exploring indie music for the first time. Coldplay, Andrew Murdoch, The Shins and most notably– Iron & Wine’s cover of “Such Great Heights.” Covers are strange, 98% of them don’t come close […]

Moos and Grooves: Part Twos

May 6, 2013 by snapshotsandneedledrops

The adventure continues! After our first three acts, we decided that it wasn’t absolutely necessary to be in the crowd for Alpine. So we went out to pasture. Pas de <<moshing.>> SILENT DISCO. Amazing. You are given headphones and then get to flick back and forth between two live DJs vying for your aural attention. Most often one DJ would come out on top ie. when one played “Thrift Shop” or “Jump Around” (second playing of House of Pain that […]

Ain’t No Love

March 11, 2013 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Canberra’s ‘Enlighten’ Festival March 2013 I woke this fine Australian morning to find that my friends at Ain’t No Love have come out with a beast of a new video for their latest ‘Gone Already.’ It opens with haunting beats and singer Saidah’s entrancing vocals. The mix lures you into a chilled rhythmic groove only to be shaken awake by the purposely frantic and silver-tongued stylings MCs Beanz and 1990. Love Thy Brother’s Liam Clarke is masterful as he creates […]

We go where we don’t know the way.

February 19, 2013 by snapshotsandneedledrops

New look, new lands, new friends, new adventures. The word ‘new’ has made itself a pretty permanent home in my list of everyday vocabulary. A new application, a new studio, a new routine, a new life chapter; fresh start this, blank slate that. It only seemed fitting that on this new side of my metaphorical leaf that I update the look of Doodledrops. I was never quite happy with the previous look anyway and if I’ve learnt something this year, […]

Dancing in the Dark

February 5, 2013 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Some of my first memories involve my matinee performances of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Showcased daily from our living room. I adored that soundtrack. I would clear off all the laundry from a wooden chest behind the couch, climb up, dance and sing out all the lyrics– including the twenty-nine shades, repeated twice so it sounds endless, listed in his “coat of many colours.” If I really wanted to pull out a particularly show-stopping performance I would wear […]

Walk Off the Earth

January 21, 2013 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Playing around the installations in the Sculpture Garden of the National Gallery of Australia. Walk Off the Earth is a Canadian group that gained viral notoriety from their amazing cover of Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know” performed with their five members playing on one guitar. Which at the moment has nearly 145,000,000 views on YouTube. Indeed the band does outstanding covers of many artists. A couple weeks ago I featured them on the Snapshots and Needle Drops’ Facebook Page […]
