Breezy Vibes

July 22, 2012 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Last June I wrote about Bahamas, a Torontonian artist who’s real name was (and still is, actually) Afie Jurvanen. I’ve since learnt that Mr. Jurvanen was actually raised in my hometown of Barrie, Ontario! That is crazy. Do you know who comes from Barrie? Hockey players, figure skaters, Stockwell Day, that girl from Radio Free Roscoe, and now Bahamas. What an addition! As I said last June, Bahamas’ first album is filled with easygoing songs that are short and sweet, […]

Rose Wine at Sunset

Vancouver Lovin’

May 26, 2012 by snapshotsandneedledrops

One year ago (less two and a half weeks) I posted about Moon Balloon and how she was floating her way across the country to brighten up the skies of Vancouver. Two weeks ago I had the pleasure of visiting her, for a second time, in her beloved new city. Three days ago it was her birthday. Happy Birthday Nams! The photo above was surreptitiously snapped of the table beside us during our beachside dinner by English Bay. Nams particularly […]

The Main

February 19, 2012 by snapshotsandneedledrops

The Main is the nickname for boulevard Saint Laurent in Montréal. This street is the heartline from which everything stems from in the city. You are either west or east of Saint Laurent, and historically it was also the unofficial demarkation between English or French. This 18th century road has been referred to as “The Main” for hundreds of years, as it was the principle path up through the city from the old port. This fact is according to Shwartz’s, […]

My Little Monster

February 14, 2012 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Happy Valentine’s Day! February 14th is special for another reason however, it’s the birthday of the little monster above, Wattie. It was nearly eleven years ago now that we found a ten-month old her on Wattie Road. She’s the best pup in the world. I adored this song from first listen. The last time I remember being immediately excited about a new song or band was the first time I heard Mumford and Sons. Which suits, as this band, Of […]

Jet trails from a plane over Paris

Potential: Part One

February 1, 2012 by snapshotsandneedledrops

“There are 500,000 people in the air right now.” Do you know what I love the most about airports? HSBC ads. Plastered all over gangways across the globe, HSBC has executed two very successful, thought-provoking airport campaigns over the last few years. There’s a lot of interesting material here, so I’m not going to use it all up in one post, but selfishly spin out their material over a few entries. The current campaign is all about the world’s potential. […]

Whistler hiking path, sunny river shot, August

Beautiful Whistler

January 12, 2012 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Whistler, of course, is a world-renown haven for winter sports. This past August however, I discovered that Summer Whistler is equally as gorgeous and fun. The mountain bike trails around Whistler are fantastic. Andy and I spent an amazing day biking around around Lost Lake, we even ran into a bear cub! This picture was taken on a hiking day a little ways out from the main village, near the Olympic Athletes’ Village. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking. Shout out to Beautiful […]

Climbing straight up to Grindelwald glacier

Takes Me Away

January 9, 2012 by snapshotsandneedledrops

This is the climb up to the Upper Grindelwald Glacier or Oberer Grindelwaldgletscher, one of the lowest glaciers of the Alps at 1,400m. First we went up half of the 900 stairs so we could zip-line back down, before we headed all the way up to reach the glacier. The view from the top was absolutely magnificent.  Grindelwald in situated in a valley right in the heart of Switzerland. It was the first place I went when I moved there and […]

Obsessed with 2011

January 3, 2012 by snapshotsandneedledrops

NEW ADDITIONS TO SNAPSHOTS AND NEEDLE DROPS! A few of you have stumbled across the new pages, can anyone else find what’s new on the site? I spent New Year’s Day with my good friend Jess. The two of us live pretty far apart so we only manage a visit about once a year. We were reminiscing about road trip a couple years ago when we became obsessed with the, then new, Taylor Swift hit “Love Story.” We didn’t know the words […]

Cirque du soleil acrobats perform in Place des Arts, Montreal

Cirque du Suprise

December 30, 2011 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Reason number 129 to love Montréal: sporadic street performances by Cirque du Soleil. This is Birdy. You might have heard her wonderful cover of Bon Iver’s Skinny Love earlier this year. If you like the song, be sure to check out “Shelter” as well. “People Help the People” by Birdy
