Clock at Musee D'Orsay looking out over Paris, Sacre Coeur

The Clock that Mocks

January 28, 2013 by snapshotsandneedledrops

“Time goes, you say? Ah, no! alas, time stays, we go.” – Henry Austin Dobson Looking out through the clock at the Musée D’Orsay, best museum in the world, at Paris’ 1st Arrondissement and on towards Sacré-Cœur. Time is making a fool of my plans. I cannot believe it’s Monday/post-day already! It’s been Australia Day celebrations-this and sightseeing-that… Anyway I was a bit under-prepared for this week’s entry so you’re getting some standby favourites. The photo was taken from inside […]

Brooding Vintage Keyboards

January 14, 2013 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Diamond Rings is 80s revivalism to a tee. With lamenting synthesizers, deep steady vocals, and a glam to rival David Bowie himself, Diamond Rings taps into the power of neon lasers and shoulder-pad blazers. The persona of this Canadian artist was created to challenge the expectations of the male pop star; again… à la Bowie with rock in 1972-73 with Ziggy Stardust. Doesn’t it sound like it would have been perfect for the Drive soundtrack? I’m especially digging the intro, it’s mad rad. As for […]

Back in the Montreal Groove

January 6, 2012 by snapshotsandneedledrops

I’m back! Though… admittedly not for very long. Montreal has received a healthy dose of snow in my absence. For a metropolis it is amazing how much snow it gets every year: usually 218cm with 60 days of snowfall (though it doesn’t beat my hometown of 238cm in 46 days!) Living in Montreal in the winter is like living in a completely different city than in the summer. A snowy Montreal means: icy sidewalks and unsteady footing, cold noses, a […]

The Road Trip Home

December 22, 2011 by snapshotsandneedledrops

FREEDOM!! Freedom came for me at 3am on Wednesday morning when I finished my last of 10, twelve-hour shifts, in the past 11 nights. Within 9 hours my co-worker Mel and I picked up our paycheques and hit the road for our Ontarian homes. If you’re going to be stuck in a car with someone for seven hours it is near-impossible to beat the fine and fun company of one Miss. Mel. We talked about anything and everything. And just to […]

Reunited

December 11, 2011 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Two nights ago I was reunited with my girls Lex and ST in Ottawa. These two girls are the reason I got through university with most of my sanity intact. We all took some variation of the same degrees: History, Political Science, Humanistic Studies, Art History, Religion, so we always found fantastic courses and took at least one of them together each semester. These girls and I share very specific knowledge on a range of subjects. Yeah… it’s pretty cool. […]

To the Giver of Cookie Dough

December 8, 2011 by snapshotsandneedledrops

So I have this amazing friend Liane who is known, internationally, for her amazing cookies. Her ginger ones are my favourite, but it’s her chocolate chip that have become the stuff of legend. Regardless of the flavour, she always leaves a portion of cookie dough specifically so I can eat it raw. Did I mention she was amazing? This girl also has fantastic music taste. She’s currently finishing her final essays of the semester and preparing to jet set across the […]

Woods and Lemonade

June 9, 2011 by snapshotsandneedledrops

Good Morning! The song is Lemonade by Braids. Although they are now in Montreal, so a couple of their members could attend McGill, Braids got started in their high school in Calgary. I wish I was that cool in high school. My ‘band’ was a 40 person choir ensemble that seemed to sing most of our stuff in Latin or Swahili. I also happened to be the president of it… so yeah, I guess you could say I was pretty cool. Lemonade by […]

Go. Stop.

June 3, 2011 by snapshotsandneedledrops

All dressed up with somewhere to go. I’m sitting here writing this blog entry in a new dress, hair done and make up on, while my dinner companions are stuck in traffic, presumably staring at the clock and counting down the now 9 minutes we have to make our reservation. I was restless for twenty minutes waiting until I decided to stop and be productive. I felt awful in that “running to stand still” feeling, but it made me think […]
